Atheist conversion
Lord of the Geese, I felt your last post deserves it's own blog-post. You said "
However, this is not so for an atheist, so why is it that atheist's feel the need to convert people to atheism? What is the motivation?"
It is not a conversion to Atheism, but a liberation from religion. To me it's the same as showing people that the Earth is no longer flat. That in the face of evidence and scientific discoveries, humans tend to adapt their thinking and ideology. The same holds true with religion; there is no evidence of god, gods or an invisible man in the sky watching our every move. However, scientific investigation consistently finds that god does not exist or ever existed. But...that doesn't matter to the religious individual. We could take all the evidence in the world to a Mormon and demonstrate that their originator was nothing but a con-artist...and they would still believe.
So, scientific evidence may only be a small part of the liberation process. The remaining pieces must incorporate the human psyche and human experience...my own experience has shown there is no god, reading the bible has only confirmed my conviction that it is only a book written by humans...and not the word or work of god.
Hmm, if we each toss out the bible and science...does god still exist?

Atheist Quote
"Science should be taught not in order to support religion and not in order to destroy religion. Science should be taught simply ignoring religion." - Steven Weinberg

Albert Einstein
"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death"

Seneca: Atheist Quote
" Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."

Atheist Quotes...
"[Worshipping God] is like fellating someone who intermittently stubs fags out on your head for no good reason. And we all know how unsatisfying that can be." - Charlie Brooker

Alberta Election and god/religion
Is religion/god really separated from politics/government? With the Alberta Premier election tomorrow (Mar 3/08) there really hasn't been any mention of religion and government.
In Alberta, is government and religion "more" separated than other provinces within Canada or is it such a non-issue?
Comments? Thoughts?

Uno Blog
Well, a friend told me I should try this blogging thing. But I thought I needed to find something passionate to blog about before I starting blathering...otherwise I'd get bored. Plus who really reads blogs anyways?
So I thought about my passions and considered which one(s) I wanted to share and have archived by the Internet or others. Forensic osteology? nah...love it but don't want to write about it. Dogs? rather spend time with animals than talk about them. IT? It's my career...need a break from it. What else....ah...atheism! Should generate some responses from the digital realm as everyone has an opinion on religion. So, let's make this an Atheism blog.
Although I think atheism is a poor word as there is no other words for "non-astrologers" or "non-bakers". Plus "atheism" is "against theo or god(s)" I'm not against something that doesn't exist! Rather, I'm against religion; look at how it ruins the world. My optimistic side tells me that this world would be a much better (not perfect) place if religion ceased to exist.
So I'll blog enthusiastically about atheism. Hope others join in the discussion. Actually hope some religious (sane and open-minded) person(s) join in too. If you read this, let's not engage in personal attacks or too much profanity. Respect and open-mindedness is sooo lacking in this world in general; let's rise above and be respectful of each other. We can criticize, argue, disagree and be passionate without giving offense to others.
Here goes....
